The real story behind the collection is not actually all that glamorous from the onset, but much like roots, the meaning behind it grew deeper as it evolved. After a successful summer drop, Mark and I sat down at a coffee shop to workshop our next collection. In typical us fashion, we made mood boards in silence, screens turned away from each other, and a timer set. Was it a competition? Of course—it always is.
When we turned our screens around to compare, Mark immediately asked why mine said “Back to Our Roots” in big capital letters. Good question I suppose. When I think of fall, I think of everything around us slowing down. Leaves changing color. I think of Thanksgiving and our family, and the traditions we’ve built. Thanksgiving isn’t just a single day for us—it’s more like four days filled with nonstop chaos, but I wouldn’t change it for anything. Some years it’s curling tournaments or talent shows, other times it’s murder mystery dinners, escape rooms, clay shooting, or even sumo wrestling. The events change, but the feelings of gratitude remain.
Thanksgiving is the only holiday our family really goes all out for— we have cousins, aunts, and uncles scattered across three houses all on the same small street, backed by open fields, farm animals, and a mountainous backdrop. When I think of fall, that’s what I picture.
It’s not just the place, but the little things—the dishes we’ve all come to expect each year. My mom’s stuffing, my cousin Lynn’s buttermilk pie, Dustin’s white chocolate peanut butter Ritz sandwiches, and Aunt Kristy’s breakfast casserole. Every year, I’m reminded how lucky I am to be surrounded by this big, imperfect family and the traditions we have.
This collection took shape with that feeling in mind. Production delays meant we didn’t receive the pieces until the day before Thanksgiving, keeping Mark and me in Florida waiting for the UPS truck while everyone was doing who knows what. But in the end, luck was on our side, and the products were delivered just in time to shoot this collection on the very farm that inspired it.
Back to Our Roots isn’t just about clothing—it’s about what grounds us. These pieces reflect simplicity, comfort, and timeless beauty, inspired by earthy tones and the warmth of tradition. They’re a reminder to reconnect with what matters most.
